Measure and brand

Put your brand on a QR code

Colour, a logo, a frame and a call to action, without breaking scannability.

What you can change

Colour, corner style, a logo in the centre, and a frame with a short line of text such as "Scan for the menu". The frame sits outside the code area, so it never touches the pattern.

The rules that keep it scannable

Contrast is not negotiable. Dark pattern on a light background. A light code on a dark background fails on many scanners, and a mid-grey code on a mid-grey background fails on all of them.

Never invert. Some cameras will read it, most will not.

Keep the logo small. A QR code carries error correction, so a modest logo in the middle is fine. A large one eats the data. If your logo covers more than roughly a fifth of the code, shrink it.

Leave the quiet zone. The empty margin around the pattern is part of the code. Do not crop it or place text inside it.

Then test it

Print it at the real size, on the real material, and scan it with two phones. Matte paper, curved bottles and anything behind glass all behave differently from your screen. A branded code that fails in print is worse than a plain one that works.
